Closed until further notice
A burst pipe in the flat above our offices caused part of our building to flood, resulting in substantial internal damage, particularly to our walls and ceilings.
We are incredibly thankful that, despite the extent of the flooding, the historical items stored in this part of the building - including George Müller’s Bible and more than 17,500 orphan records - were completely undamaged. It is really quite a miracle they remained safe!
We are also hugely grateful for the kindness and generosity of many of our neighbours in the surrounding flats, who came to help us, lending towels, mops and a helping hand.
Due to the damage sustained, The George Müller Museum will remain closed until further notice.
It is likely that some parts of the museum will need to remain closed for considerably longer while the necessary repairs and restoration works are carried out. We will do everything we can to reopen as soon as it is safe and practical to do so, and we will keep you updated as we know more.
Our offices have now reopened, but our team is still dealing with the aftermath of the flooding and the many things that need to be put back in place. As a result, our replies may be slower than usual over the coming weeks. We really appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
School Visits
If you are a school that has booked a visit with us for the upcoming autumn term, or if you had hoped to book a visit with us this coming term, we can still come to you. We are pleased to be able to offer a free lesson at your school, using engaging historical artefacts from our collection.
Family History & Record Requests
We will also continue to respond to family history and record requests. However, please be aware that responses are likely to take longer than usual over the next month or so while we work through the impact of the flooding.

We are a small museum and occasionally have school groups that take us to capacity. If you are travelling a long way to get to us, we advise calling ahead to check availability.

About the Museum
The George Müller Museum is a small museum with a big story to tell – not just George Müller’s story but the lives and experiences of the 17.5 thousand children who lived in the Ashley Down Orphan Homes from early Victorian Bristol until the 1950’s.
Housed in one of the original orphanages, our museum is packed full of history and incredible true stories and it is suitable for all ages.
We have original artefacts and records, interactive displays, family activities and the powerful story of the man who prayed for the resources to care for 10,000 children. As well as information about the charity he left behind – still faithfully working to support vulnerable children today.
We are accessible, child-friendly and free!
