Churches showing Euro2016 matches

Football, is loved by many! Euro2016 could be an amazing opportunity to reach out to local people in your community.

A number of churches in Bristol and across the country have been showing England football matches at major competitions (World Cup and European Championships) since 2000. Check out a short article from 2010 on BBC Bristol website featuring Christchurch Clifton and Ebenezer Church. These are simple but great opportunities for churches to use their resources and facilities to invite the local community in and watch football matches with other passionate fans of all ages and backgrounds.

Here are some helpful resources and ideas to get started -

  • Read this helpful advice from CCLI on public screening of football matches and other sports events.
  • Make sure the building you are showing the matches has a tv licence (which you can purchase and then cancel after 1 or 2 months and pay percentage of the licence fee
  • Details of England matches in group stages are here and then you need to be prepared for future matches if England get through to future rounds
  • Advertise on social media, church website and simple flyers for contacts through your regular church events. If you let Mullers know then we will share on our social media too.
  • Put posters up in local community buildings and in poster boards outside of the church.
  • Set up a big screen with projector and test that all works with a tv aerial and using a digital freeview box.
  • Provide refreshments and snacks either free of charge or cheap ‘tuckshop’.
  • Make sure you have a team to be welcoming people and create a good relaxed environment

If you have any more questions, then please contact Müllers and we will attempt to answer your questions or point you in the right direction for assistance.
