“But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life” (Jude vv 20-21).
The short letter of Jude, written by one of Jesus’ brothers, assumes a context in which discipleship is assailed by both falsity and immorality as well as the sensual allures of a more comfortable life. Twenty centuries later, the global Church is in a very similar position and there is no shortage of people peddling quick-fix solutions and attractive regimens for spiritual growth or slick godliness. Yet Jude’s prescription for ongoing faithfulness, which is striking in its simplicity and apparent mundanity, remains the best route to endurance: Prayer in the Spirit; Life in the Father’s Love; True Hope in the ongoing Mercy of the Son. May you be built up in our most Holy Faith today, tomorrow and all your tomorrows until His Mercy carries you into that life of the age to come for which we Hope. Yours in our Lord Jesus Christ, The Müllers Prayer Team
