...Bringing Christian Hope and Wholeness to Children and Young People since 1834

Muller's Story

George Müller cared for 10,000 orphaned children in Bristol during the 19th Century. He never made appeals for money, trusting implicitly in God, he received £1,500,000 in answer to prayer. At present day prices, this would be well over £86,000,000.

We’re a rapidly ageing population and while living longer is ‘good news’ it also presents challenges. How do we best serve the older men and women both in our churches and the wider community?

This is an opportunity to inspire and re-energise your team and reach out to the growing numbers of older people needing spiritual support. There is a ripe mission field among those reaching retirement age and who are asking the big questions about life – and death.

How do we ensure a ‘can do’ approach to life in our later years? And make sure people who may be lonely and at risk of increasing social isolation remain connected?
The Bible Reading Fellowship, BRF, has pioneered Anna Chaplaincy for Older People and is developing a national network of those trained to support older people. It is led by former broadcaster Debbie Thrower who was the first Anna Chaplain. She and her team have a wealth of ideas for churches wanting to develop this area of ministry and make the most of the spiritual dividend of a growing proportion of those in their 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond in our midst.

Take Messy Vintage, for instance, which has grown out of Messy Church and its tried and tested formula of worship for all ages. Come and take part in a demonstration from practitioner Jill Phipps, and see for yourself the benefits of focusing on continuing to grow spiritually. Explore some of the emotional, physical and economic issues facing individuals growing old in the twenty-first century and see what’s distinctive about the whole spirituality of ageing.

‘If you want to see better support for older people and to celebrate longevity this day is a must’, says Debbie, ‘and unlock how to take full advantage of the abundance of life-experience and wisdom among our older generations.’
