Living Waters Church, Clevedon, North Somerset
The past year has seen some major changes within destin@tion. The club has developed and grown in strength in the services provided for the young people within Clevedon town.
Kate Worthington, our Müller project worker, left to have a baby in September. This led to a reorganisation of the club’s structure with me taking over from Kate and Daniel Sibthorpe as team leader.
I believe a key to the club’s future development is greater ownership by the young people. Taking this into account, a group of 4 young people were asked to be youth representatives. This involves decision-making as well as having their own budget to be used within the club (if only they will spend it!).
There has been an emphasis this year on expanding the spiritual side of the club. Previously we had been running an ‘Exploring Christianity’ group but due to the feedback and the amount of
young people wanting to take part in another course, we developed a second part called ‘The Journey’ which aims to provide a framework for young people to make decisions within a Christian context. Both groups have grown with around fifty young people taking part over the last couple of years.
With this openness to look at the Christian faith, destin@tion took 12 young people to ‘Creation Fest’ over August 2004. This event really impacted the young people and helped strengthen relationships for all involved. Due to the success of this venture we propose taking another group away over the summer to the same event, which is already over-subscribed.
I believe we are on the brink of seeing God move massively this coming year among the young people and leaders within destin@tion, which will have an effect on those outside of the club.
