Elderly Care
The elderly care work was established in 1983, with the residential care home, Tilsley House, being opened in Weston-super-Mare in 1986. Since the sale of Tilsley House in 2010 the main focus of care is in Tranquil House, which offers sheltered accommodation.
There are eight individual flats or apartments offering the opportunity for independence for the residents, but with a good level of help and support, should they need it, in the form of a part time warden.
The residents meet together regularly for times of prayer and fellowship and go on outings together. The warden can also provide further support on a private basis, if required. It is also possible for residents to enjoy some of the activities available in Tilsley House, a residential care Home next door.
Nationally, the emphasis is for more elderly care to be delivered in the community through charitable organisations, with the aim of keeping as many older people in their own homes for as long as possible. Currently the Trust is researching ways in which it may become more involved in community based elderly care. There are a number of possible options for delivering care at the point of need and it is important that the Trust decides on the one most appropriate for its level of expertise and resources, retaining the distinctiveness of the Müller approach.
